September Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM)

+ UPCOMING ACTIVITIES

September is a significant month for our community.  It’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, (CCAM), a meaningful time for Kids & Art to raise awareness about how our programs focus on the arts and creativity to uplift pediatric cancer patients to feel like autonomous, creative artists rather than sick patients.

September is filled with activities, gatherings, celebrations, and healing for our community.

September 1-30: “GIVE IN SEPTEMBER” Campaign

We are not waiting for GivingTuesday this year; instead we will launch our signature giving campaign, "Give in September," on September 1 through the entire month. We hope we can count on your kindness and generosity to raise funds to support the creative arts programs we provide for kids with cancer and their families.

September 8 : San Francisco Giants Pediatric Cancer Awareness Game

Kids & Art will have a special part in the game and how the players are announced. Stay tuned for more information and details.

September 17: Art Heals Day

In concept, Art Heals Day (the third Sunday of September) is a day of recognition and celebration of the healing impact of art and creativity initiated by the Kids & Art Foundation as a thought leader based on our experience improving the wellbeing of pediatric cancer patients and families through artmaking.

Kids & Art will launch our first official Art Heals Day event (evolution of previous Celebration Day) as our way to recognize and celebrate the healing impact art and creativity has on wellbeing. This concept has directed the intentionality of Kids & Art programs since our inception, is evidenced in our work with children and families facing cancer, and has inspired our vision and advocacy for participation in the arts to be fully integrated into healthcare treatment plans. By creating an Art Heals Day event this allows us to raise awareness for our organization locally, bring the community together for artmaking to experience how art can heal, and expand our collaboration with other like-minded healing arts organizations.

The Art Heals Day event 2023 will be held at Red Morton Park, adjacent to the Magical Bridge Playground in Redwood City in partnership with Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services, Arts Redwood City and the Redwood City Parks & Art Foundation. Future events may change Bay Area park locations annually.

In order to be inclusive to our community members who may not be able to attend our Art Heals Day event, we will also have a planned social media component for September 17 that shares the healing creativity in action from the event and invites other individuals and organizations to post and share their healing art moments using the hashtag #ArtHealsDay

September 25: San Francisco Giants CLUBHOUSE

During the game on September 25, Kids & Art will be the featured community clubhouse organization at the SF Giants stadium on the promenade level. Come visit us and say hello!
