Let’s get creative! Kids & Art hosts ongoing art workshops held on Zoom, led by one of our lead artists, for children and families touched by cancer or other critical conditions. Each online art experience features a different theme and focus, and gives participants the opportunity to engage in creative projects specially designed for them.

All materials required for each project are free and mailed to registrants ahead of the workshop. We hope you’ll join us!

Why “Amaeyzing?” - Kids & Art Foundation is the legacy of our founder’s son, Amaey. He was always called Amazing Amaey by his friends, and that is how we coined the term “Amaeyzing” for many of the Kids & Art Programs. More about the Kids & Art story.

DECEMBER: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!

October: Halloween Celebration - “Mask”erade Fun

A Spooktacular afternoon of Halloween fun, creating masks of your favorite animals, real or imagined. As an extra treat, real or stuffed pets were able to make an appearance during our workshop.

September: second annual quilting workshop

We hosted our second annual quilting workshop on September 11. Kids & Art lead artist Caroline Robins was joined by featured artist Kena T. Dorsey, as we explored the contemporary art of portrait quilting. Steeped in history, portrait quilting is a big trend in modern and creative quilting. Participants played with a fabulous variety of textured, patterned, and solid-colored fabrics to create their own imaginative and personal portraits.

AUGUST: BUDSIES! : TURN YOUR ORIGINAL ARTWORK INTO A STUFFED PLUSHIE

Workshop participants worked with featured artist Toby Cochran with assistance from artist Janae Dueck to create a unique drawing of a character or image, which Budsies then uploaded to create each child’s plush.

JULY: Traditional ink painting with the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.

Participants joined Margaret Yee from the Asian Art Museum and Lead Artist Caroline Robins for a close look at traditional ink paintings from China, Japan, and Korea and to learn about the tools and techniques used to create these paintings. They explored what these artworks say about our relationship with nature and then applied these ideas in a hands-on ink-painting experience.

JUNE: Leaves & Petals: Andy Goldsworthy, Beauty in Nature with Lead Artist Caroline Robins

Inspired by the work of British artist Andy Goldsworthy, our June online art experience took participants on a virtual tour of Andy Goldsworthy’s beautiful natural works of art. Goldsworthy uses materials such as leaves, flowers, twigs and pinecones and arranges them to create living sculptures using nature as his canvas. Lead artist Caroline Robins took a “leaf” from Andy’s work and created art from nature, using a collection of materials in organic shapes including petals, leaves and twigs. Nature provides endless possibilities for creating art!

MAY: “We Are All Storytellers - Creating Stories, Worlds, and Characters” - with Pixar in a Box and X in a Box

Come tell your stories with Pixar in a Box. We all have so many stories to tell and in this session, we approached storytelling the Pixar way. Elyse Klaidman, who spent 22 years at Pixar and developed Pixar in a Box, led us through this session where everyone came up with their own story and accompanying illustrations.

MARCH: BASKET FULL OF WISHES - WEAVING WORKSHOP

Do you need a place to keep your wishes safe? Well our workshop offered a solution to our families. They had the change to join lead artist Caroline Robins and featured artist Emily Dvorin, a sculptural basketry artist, for a weaving workshop and use yarns to create a wish tree and woven basket.

FEBRUARY: Heartfelt Mini Sculptures

Working with lead artist, Caroline Robins, and featured artist, Sophia Lee, the creator of one of the famous “Hearts in San Francisco” sculptures, we created our own mini heart sculpture, stand, and box — which we got to decorate to our heart’s content!
