Spotlight on Color Swell

For the past several months, Kids & Art has received regular donations of watercolor paints, crayons and markers from Color Swell, a company that provides art supplies to schools, families and other large groups. The materials that they give us have been used at our in-hospital programs, destination workshops and by participants in our online Zoom programs. Company President Matt Friedland spoke with us about Color Swell:

1. What is your name and what does your job at Color Swell entail?

My name is Matt and my job includes a wide variety of responsibilities, such as marketing, fulfillment, customer service, and operational logistics. I really enjoy new product development because it provides me with the opportunity to try all different types of art supplies while having fun with art.

2. What kinds of products/services does Color Swell offer?

Color Swell makes quality art supplies at great prices. Our products include watercolor paints, broadline markers, super tip markers, metallic markers, crayons, colored pencils, pink erasers, and easel pads.

3. How did you find Kids & Art and why have you decided to donate to us?

Color Swell partners with a select group of nonprofit organizations that provide art and educational services to children in need. We regularly search for new partners and receive a lot of requests for donations. Color Swell selected Kids & Art and because of their focus on supporting children and healing through arts.

4. What role does philanthropy play in Color Swell?

Color Swell recognizes the impact that art and creativity have on healing and has made philanthropy a key tenet of our business, particularly the donation of art supplies.

5. Is there anything else you want our audience to know about the importance of art in our lives?

Art plays a major role in healing the mind and body. Color Swell art supplies are perfect for artists of all levels and experiences. Relax, draw a beautiful picture, and have a colorful day!

Caroline Robins

Caroline Robins is Program Manager for Kids & Art at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco. She acts as a liaison between volunteer artists, hospital staff, families, and maintains community outreach. She is passionate about the mission of this incredible organization. Caroline has a wealth of experience in creative and design roles and has worked in children’s art education for many years, witnessing first hand the healing power of art.
